Chalk Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent. On that day boys and girls get chalk and they scribble on the backs of the old maids and bachelors.
On St. John's Night which is sometimes called Bonfire Night people visit Holy Wells and light bonfires in honour of St. John.
A feast is held in every house on Hallow Eve. People have a barm-brack, nuts and apples on that night. The barm-brack contains a ring, rag, stick, pea and a bean. Whoever gets the ring is said to be married before a year, the rag is for rags, the stick is for master of the house, the pea is for poverty and the bean is for prosperity.
