- In the sixteenth century Cromwell's army marched close by this district. He burned the monk's abbey. Afterwards the place was called Mourne Abbey. Having planted this district he marched to Blarney. He knocked off a part of Blarney Castle, and then gave it to one of his followers. It is said that the former owner of the Castle told Cromwell's soldier that it was n't worth a half-crown. After bargaining for a while the soldier sold the castle for half a-crown.
