- About fifty years ago a hurling match was played in the Molagga (Ahacross, Kildorrery Co. Cork) fair-field between Shanballymore and Ballyhea. (Co Cork). The match was the final of the Kildorrery (Co. Cork) tournament and the winners received a set of medals. It was a draw on two occasions, but, the third time Ballyhea won. Twenty one men were on each side. The players were dressed the same as to-day. The ball was of the same kind as the one at present used but larger. At that period there was no crossbar, and in addition to the goal-gaps there were point posts. These were at each side of the goal gaps. The spaces between the point posts and the goal posts were the same but were somewhat closer to each other than at present. The hurleys were made of ash, but they were heavy.
The game of bowling was played very often along the Ahacross (Kildorrery Co. Cork) road in the summer evenings.Collector: Patrick Dwane
