  1. This night was called Sceilig's night.
    Boys used gather together in groups of six or seven and any girls who were not married on that day were taken to Sceiligs.
    Sceiligs was to take them with a rope round them to the nearest pump to hold them under the pump and let the water run on them.
    This night was also called pancake night.
    People honoured it by feasting on pancakes.
