- John Sherlock was born in Glanworth village about the year 1830. His parents were vintners who lived in the house presently occupied by Mr. Wilkinson. At the age of thirty he emigrated to America, and died there about the year 1888. He wrote many songs of which "Glanworth Arbour" is the best known in Glanworth to-day. From the title of this song the village is known far and wide as "The Harbour".
"Glanworth Arbour"
I
Glanworth is a sporting town,
As any in this nation,
'Tis decked with beauty all around,
And a spacious fine plantation,
II
'Tis there you'll see the customs free,
The boys to play in the ball alley,
In Sherlock's house there is whiskey "soult",
To "trate" the boys in the morning.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
