  1. Marriages long ago generally took place during Shrove and before Advent in Glanworth, Co. Cork.
    Days lucky and unlucky, an old saying says:-
    Marry on Monday marry for health,
    Marry on Tuesday marry for wealth,
    Marry on Wedrnesday the best day of all,
    Marry on Thursday for losses and crosses,
    Marry on Friday the worst day of all,
    Marry on Saturday no luck at all.
    For dress the parties getting married should wear in order to be considered lucky are:-
    "Something old and Something new,
    Something borrowed and Something blue."
    The dresses the brides used wear, used be considered lucky or unlucky are:-
    "Marry in white it is sure to be right,
    Marry in blue it is sure to be true,
    Marry in green unfit to be seen,"
