& he began to think how he could give warning of the soldier's approach. He was on horseback in front of the drummer & as they were approaching the castle the boy beat a warning on the drum. McCarthy's soldiers heard it & prepared for the attack & were able to resist the English. When the latter saw what the little boy did they threw him into a bog hole where he was drowned. It was afterwards called Móin na Réalta.

  2. There was an old cobbler & the world was against him. He was anxious to be a priest (when young). To earn money he started shoe-making but his heart was more on books than on boots. He abandoned the trade but had to return to it in his old age. Because he could not become a priest he died of a 'broken heart'.

  3. A certain man spent all his money on drink & he said he would sell his soul to the devil. One night a gentleman who entered his house asked him if he would sell his soul. The drunkard agreed, got a good sum of money for it & continued to drink until someone told the Priest. The drunkard was converted, he got a good position, became a good Catholic & lived happily for a long time.
