- Shandrum means the old back of Newtown.
In olden days the town we now call Charleville was where Shandrum grave yard now is. Fairs used to be held there.
Mr Moloney has a field called the fair field. Many years ago there was a chapel in Moloneys where an old moat now stands.
It is said that there are many Gold chalices buried there.
It is also said that there was a small town where Cronin's now is. The old town was situated at the north and east side of the church.
The chapel which was a thatched one was situated on the top of a hill beside the fort which can be seen on the present day on James Moloney's farm.- Bailitheoir
