  1. FAIRY FORTS
    There are a large number of forts in the district and are supposed to be made as hiding places in the days of old. Traces of some of them have disappeared entirely, but others may be seen and visited quite easily. The nearest fort to my home is at Gortnascregga. It is circular in shape and about one hundred yards wide. At the northern side, there is a fence three feet high and five feet at the base. The other sides are open. In the centre furze bushes and other trees are grown. There were two other forts near here, one in Muckinagh and the other Burraleigh. These forts are known as the “three sisters”. Old people say that a light appears at “Lios na Puca” that is the fort at Curraleigh and travels along Muckinagh and then to
