  1. Glantane village is in the parish of Kilshannig, barony of Duhallow, Co. Cork about six miles w.s.w. of Mallow. The village is situated at the entrance to a gap in the line of low hills which runs from the Nagles Mountains to the Boggeraghs. Between the village and the Blackwater which is about two miles to the north is a plain which stretches from Gortmore on the west to near Mallow on the East a distance of six or seven miles.
Until the Post Office was opened in the village the name used to be spelled "Glountane" or "Glauntane" but it is said, the Post Office authorities changed this to "Glantane" in order to avoid confusing it with Glountane near Cork.
The present population of the village (1938) is 56 and the number of houses, 21; an average of less than 3 persons per house; there is only one person in each of six of the houses, and the greatest number in any house is 6. Fifty years
