In my father's young days a great Pattern used to be held near Saint Abby's Well (which is about two miles to the south east of Lombardstown Station) every year on the 11th February.
The young men of the parish used to assemble in a field near the Well and compete for the Championship of the Parish in the long jump, and hop-step-and jump.
Thousands of people used to attend. Now very few people except the old and the children come to the Well on Saint Abby's Day.
