  1. I heard my father saying that the Farrendoyle bog ran away about a hundred years ago. The cause of it running away was too much water and decayed moss and plants. It kept rising until it was about three hundred feet high then it was shaking all over like a quagmire. A week before it ran away it could be heard roaring miles away. It was such a terrible sight that people came from Cork in stage coaches as far as Doire na Mona. A man named Eles was fowling in it the day before it ran away and he never knew the danger until he felt it shaking under his feet and heard it roaring he got a great fright. It ran away in the night time. It swept away a cow and a few houses that were where the Derrygallon creamery stands now. It carried a great quantity of bog. A few neighbours that were living near the bog managed
