There was a grinding mill in Derrygallon long ago for grinding wheat, oats, and barley. There was also a mill for spinning and carding wool and making thread. It is about forty years ago since it closed down. The man that owned it was Mr Daly.
About forty years ago there lived a man named Johny Brown near Newmarket who was famous for basket making. People used to come from far and near to buy baskets from him.
There lived in Derrygallon about thrity five years ago a man named Jerry Murphy. He was known as Jerry the thatcher by the people of most districts. He had the name of a good thatcher. He used to get sallies by the banks of the river and make scollops of them. He use to thatch with reed straw and rushes.
Long ago the people of this district used to make their own candles. They used to make
