  1. There is a fort almost in every farm throughout Ireland.
    There is a large fort of thirteen acres, circular in shape, in the towland of Bawnmore, barony of Duhollow, Kanturk, Co. Cork. the fort is called Kilmarcow, and is one of the largest in Ireland. There are many traditions and stories connected with the fort. There are two ditches, and inside the inner ditch there is a graveyard. In the graveyard it is said, that a man of the name of Sankey was buried hundreds of years ago. It is also said, that the night before anybody is going to be buried there, that there is a drum heard beating there, and no music. It is called "Sankey's Drum." It is known to true, that on the eve of anybody's death in the neighbourhood, the drum is heard around the house on the night before.
