- The Carthy family has been well known in this district for many years.
They sell ware and cheap jewellery. They live in a caravan: but are supplied with food from the houses they visit. They never ask for alms, but they depend on the things they sell, but their men folk do a little dealing in horses and donkeys.
There are also families of Sheridans and Coffeys. These however are not as numerous now as the Carthys. They are more frequently seen on a fair day.
