  1. Many years ago it was said that a man of the name of Sankey buried a pot of gold in a fort in Kilmacow before he died.
He was a landlord in Bawnmore and he wished to be buried in Kilmacow grave-yard about four miles north of Kanturk. It was said that three men were stealing a tree. When they had the tree cut they say Sankey's ghost sitting on the end of the tree. They cut all the tree except the piece Sankey sat on. The ghost left at cock-crow in the morning.
People searched for the pot, and dug for it; but it failed them.
Sankey was buried as he desired, and his grave is to be seen yet at the west side of the grave yard. There is a metal railing around the grave and a gate which is locked.
