- In the ploughland of Gortnaconroe about one mile and a quarter to the west of Kanturk there is an old fort, which is supposed to have been built by the Danes. The fort is on the lands of Mr Thomas Lane, Gortnaconroe.
One time a man who had the farm, was digging gravel in the fort; and he found green glass of different thicknesses. There are also green stones and other peculiar things to be found in the fort, even down to this day.
It was also believed by old people that the fort was hollow inside.
