Marriages take place during Shrove. Shrove is a period from the 7th January to Shrove Tuesday.
Marriages are regarded unlucky on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and on the month of May and July.
Any of the marriagable boys or girls that are unmarried are supposed to go to Skellig and a Skellig list of all such persons is put into poetry. Some of the parties are praised and others criticised. People went to Skellig because they could get married in Advent and Lent without breaking the laws of the church a Skellig list was composed as follows.
