- We in Blarney had a great flood on April 1st 1931. The Mills were flooded and work was suspended for nearly a week. So great was the weight of water coming down the River Martin that the weir at the "Big Pond" was swept clean away.The new bridge built over the river near the Protestant School, is too low and does not let the volume of water sweep through when in flood. As this flood was extra high all the houses in the Lower Village which are convenient to the river were flooded, water sweeping through the back doors and out the front.
