- Long ago the treat the people had for Whit Sunday was salt fish and sometimes oatmeal and if a person had sixpence they would get a mug of oatmeal for sixpence. There was no bread or tea.For Christmas they would have potatoes and new milk and if a person got enough potatoes they would think it great. The people were very happy because they had very good health and they enjoyed the times they had.The people would sleep in the Church Whit Saturday night. There was a man living to the east of the town and he had some disease. He came to Ballyvourney every Whit-Saturday and slept in the Church. When he was after sleeping there about twelve nights he was cured but he kept on sleeping there until he died.
