  1. When there is a rain-bow in the sky it is a sign of rain. When clouds are running it is a sign of rain. If the soot is blown down the chimney it is a sign of bad weather. When the swallows are flying low it is a sign of rain. When the west winds blow it is a sign of a long spell of bad weather. When the north wind blows we usually have snow. When rain is near the soot falls down the spaniel sleeps, the spiders from cob-webs creep. When we see curlews or sea gulls it is a sign that rain is near. When the sun is red in the morning it is a good sign of the weather. When the sheep come down to the bottom of the mountain it is a sign of rain. When the smoke comes down the chimney is a sign of rain and when the smoke goes up straight in the air it is a sign of a long spell of good weather. When we see a great many stars in the sky by night we are sure to have frost.
