   There are several varities of wild birds to be found in my district, the blackbird, thrush, wren, blue-tit stonechat the robin the yellow hammer, the lark, the sparrow, the gold-finch and the bull-finch being the commonest. Among the migratory birds which visit this neighbourhood are the cuckoo the corncrake and the swallow in summer and the starling, plover and woodcook in winter.
   Tales in connection with the robin are very prevalent in the locality, the following being the most popular. It is said that long ago in the far frozen North, there was only one great fire to heat the vast district of snow - land. Now every night this fire was tended by the local inhabitants who took their turn in keeping the great furnace ablaze. the great snow bear who resided in the district hated that terrible fire.
