  1. In connection with May day customs John OBrien CLongue, Clonbogue, Kilbrittain, farmer aged about 44 years told me he often heard his father John O'Brien (who died 3 years ago, aged 77) tell this story.
    When he was young the father and mother were in Bandon one Saturday which happened to be May Day. A servant was in charge of the children and took no notice when this neighbour sent to the house for a jug of milk, but just gave it to her. The girl said nothing about the borrowing of the milk. That week O'Briens could make no churn even thouh they had the cream in the barrel for hours. At last Mr. + Mrs O'Brien questioned the girl who told them about the borrowing. They pretended nothing but waited until that neighbour went to Bandon and when the farmer and
