  1. Timoleague Bridge across the Argideen was first built about 100 years ago. Piles 9" x 3" were driven down into the mud. The arch was built in such a way that even when the old bridge was sinking (before it was blown up by the I.R.A. in 1922) it was becoming more secure.
    Before this bridge was made people used to go to Bandon once a fortnight from the vicinity of Timoleague. The women used walk and carry their butter and eggs on their backs. The men used drive horses or mules with a pannier tied on each side of their backs. They carried potatoes in these panniers.
    One night when returning from Bandon before the bridge was built Timothy Holland's grandmother, with her father, was attempting to cross the Argideen. They used cross at a narrow part to the west of the present bridge almost opposite the present Castle.
    The tide was in full. So the father and daughter mounted the mule. and let him travel away through
