- This mill is idle for about 60 years. It was used for grinding meal. The owners were Bennetts who owned another mill in Shannonvale. All the maize came into Ring in Ships in the Summer & was drawn in horse carts to Ballinascarthy a distance of about 7 miles for 2/6 per load.
He remembers seeing 18 or 20 horses loaded on Fridays with meal to be carted to Skibbereen a distance of about 25 miles for the market on Saturday.
He often lifted the sacks weighing 20 stones on his back to the carts.
Entrance to this mill was on the western side of the village between Mr Johnson's own house & the row containing the shops.
This mill was not working when the railway line was opened to Clonakilty about 50 years ago.- Faisnéiseoir
