- Mr Draper Rockgrove, Dunmanway told me of a shipwreck which took place near the Old Head of Kinsale.
The Hercules - a German vessel had thirteen Germans on board, she was loaded with pitch pine.
During the night she ran on the rocks in heavy tide.
One man was thrown off the mast on to the rocks, he made his way to the house of John Harrington, Boxtown.
About 3 o'clock in the morning, Harrington heard him at the door, he got up & left him in & the poor man told his sad story.
Harrington put him in his own bed & he soon picked up strength.
He was the only survivor.
The other twelve men were buried in the ruins of Carrowrane graveyard.- Bailitheoir
