Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Most of the old houses in this locality were thatched; the thatch was made from wheaten straw. There were several thatchers in the district, but many of the farmers were able to do their own thatching.
    Most of the houses had a settle bed in the Kitchen, it was used as a seat during the day time and a bed at night.
    The fireplace was generally at the gable wall & the front of the chimney was made of clay.
    Some of the old cabins had no chimney, there was a hole in the roof for the smoke to go out. For a window they had just one small pane of glass, the rooms were very small & dark. The floors were made of clay, which became very sticky in wet weather.
    Half-doors were very common in the old houses & they are still to be seen in many places about here.
    Numbers of the poor people had very little of anything in the way of
