- About the middle of February 1892 there was a terrible snow storm. It started snowing at mid-night and continued until the middle of the next day. In this district it rose to a height of from eight to eleven feet. At that time there were no grooved doors as there are now, so that it was very easy for the snow to get into the houses. In this district it came into the houses so thick that the people could not remain in the kitchens. When it stopped snowing the snow had to be taken out of the houses with shovels. It remained in parts of the district for nearly four months and during most of that time all the animals of the farm had to be left in houses and fed inside also.
On 12th August 1898 there was a severe thunderstorm. During the storm a lot of damage was done in Colomane West. A road which was the only way the people of Gurtatagort had to go to Durrus Road, was all torn up. In one part of it there was a gully which(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
