Ar an leathanach seo
- Potatoes are grown on our farm. There is about an acre and a half sown under potatoe crop. The amount never varies. My father prepares the ground. The ground is never manured in any way. They are usually sown in drills. A plough is used in making drills.
Wooden ploughs are often used. There are plenty left still. Spades are not made locally they are bought in the shop. The potatoes are cut in slits and sown in drills. Sometimes the people help each other sowing the potatoes. They help each other ploughing and spreading the slits. The treatment given to the growing crop is first the farmer weeds and moulds and sprays them.
The farmers in my district get digging machines and digs them. The neighbours pick them in buckets. Potatoes are stored in pits. The names othe different potatoes are Kerrs-Pink, Aran Banner and British Queen. The potatoes that grow best on our farm are Kerrs-Pink.
