    situated on the west of Lough Ree.
    During the Danish reign in Ireland Turgesius with his fleet sailed up the Shannon and encamped in Rinndun on the west bank of Lough Ree.
    Here he robbed and plundered all round him on both sides of the lake. He imposed a tax on the people and anyone who didn't pay had his nose cut off. This tax was called the "nose tax".
    In the reign of Henry II, John d Courcy one of Strongbow's men came down to Connaught to seize land but the Connaught men beat him and he fled to Rinndun
