- One Friday in January,
As the boys from far and near.
Assembled down at Godfreys' Cross
An ambush to prepare.
There were boys from Dripsey Valley.
And famed old Donoughmore.
All going to fight for Ireland.
Where the Dripsey River flows.II
Long and patiently they waited.
Though the day was bitter cold.
They little knew that behind their backs
The ambush had been sold.
For a traitor dwelt amongst them.
And this they did not know.
And the soldiers found their hiding place.
Where the Dripsey River flows.III
At four o' clock the soldiers came.
And they were well prepared.
With rifles and machine-guns.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
