- Every one used to sow flax long ago. When the flax used be ripe they used to pull it from the root. They used to put it over in Locha Lín to steep. It used to be left there for two weeks. Then they used to put it bleaching in a bare field for three or four days. Then they used to strike it down on a stone with a túairgín to soften it. A túairgín was a piece of oak. Then they used to pull it through a hackle (taisteal) to clean it. A hackle is an iron thing with long spikes. Darby Gabha used to make hackles. He had a forge in Coulagh. Then they used to settle it on the wall for the weaver and he used to do the rest of it. The people used to make sheets of it.
