    According to local tradition a ship came in and got wrecked at Tranferla a townland in this district. The name of the ship was the Pearl. Hence the strand got the name of Tranferla and the district near it got the same name.
    The ship carried gold and the sailors carried this to a field nearby where they hid it. The place is now called Esc an Airgid. The money was buried when the moon was shining and a patch of moonlight or shadow was the only mark they had. When the moon went down the sailors came back to get the gold but could not find it.
    Some men searched the place about fifty years ago but without success.
