- There is a boundary fence between the townlands of Redineagh and Fanlobbus about two miles South East of Dunmanway in the county of Cork. It is a straight fence running from Fanlobbus graveyard to the Bandon river. In it is supposed to be concealed a [pan?] of gold which was robbed by an noted highway robber named Donncad Dub. There were no deposit banks in those days and it looked likely that the boundary fence was a good land-mark for him to find it at any time he wished. Several local people at different times made attempts to find it but failed in thier attempt. No such discoveries of gold or silver have never been found in this area. There is supposed to be a secret chamber stored with some form of treasure in every lis. There is no record to show that it was ever found in this area. There is supposed to be a fairy-man guarding such hidden treasure. For instance in this district two local people who dreamt of such treasure, when they started to dig the hole that was pointed out to one of them in his dream, had to abandon the digging owing to a light which suddenly appeared between them and frightened them so much that they had to give over their search.
