- "The following are some of the signs that foretell rain"
If the sun goes down pale it is a sign of rain. If it goes down red and if the red goes down with it, this is also a sign of rain.
If the moon is surrounded by a circle called a Halo rain generally follows.
A rainbow in the morning is the shepherd's warning
And a rainbow in the evening is the shepherd's delight.
If the clouds are near the earth and coloured black this is also a sign of a shower or of heavy rain.
When rain is approaching a water fall can be heard very far away. A fog rises out of the river before the rain.
The hills appear to be very near before the rain.
There is a hill in this locality called "broc na n-abhann". In English it is improperly called Owen hill. The old people were always afraid of rain when Owen has its cap on. That is when it is covered with a fog. This sign is also observed to day and it is capable of being seen from any part of the surround-(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
