Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)cream. A short time before that a hand separator could not be got and the farmer had to set the milk in big earthenware pans. It was left in the pans for 24 hours, then it was skimmed and the cream was put aside.
There were several ways for churning such as, with a barrel churn & with an upright one. The upright churn was somewhat the same same as the present day iron churn in which the farmer carries the milk to the creamery. It was covered by a wooden plate which could be turned around on top of the churn. In the middle of the cover a circular hole was made and a handle was run through the hole to the bottom of the churn. The handle was fixed into a perforated wooden disc inside.
