    and Oat meal and skim milk. They called it "rianbun." The government relieved this district. They made a lot of roads throughout the country.
    The people died in great numbers on the road sides. The people also died in houses, and they were called dead houses. A great sickness followed the hunger and a lot of them died.
    The people do not talk of any other great periods of famine.
