    My granny Mrs Jane Clabby, Rooskey, parish of KIlglass co. Roscommon aged 82 years told me the habits of some birds in this district.
    She said there are a big number of birds in this district viz. the swallow, the crow, the blackbird, the stir, the robin and many others.
    Some of the birds are regarded as signs of the weather. If you saw a lone magpie on the road the weather would be bad, and if you saw two magpies the weather would be good.
    When a crane is flying with the wind it is a sign of bad weather and when the crane is flying against the wind it is a sign of good weather.
    When the swallows are flying low there is going to be rain. When there are sea-gulls in-land there is going to be bad weather.
