- There are places in my parish where mass was said in penal days. In a field belonging to Patrick “sonny” Kane, Lagan, Kilglass, there is a Mass Rock. This field is on the top of a hill and on this hill there is a rock where there are low shrubs, chiefly whins growing. The rock goes out in a point to the east and on the west side there is a fairly deep hollow. So it was down in the hollow the priest was while saying the mass and the people were all around the spot and the whins covered them from the view of the enemy who might be down below in the valley. In the summer time the children of this locality visit the Mass Rock and say prayers there.
