Next morn I went with me mare to the mill with a sack of the corn to get it ground into meal and going up to the mill the road was all ice and me mare slipped and broke her back. I went into a field near by and killed a sheep. I bound the skin on me mare's back with a brier.
Next morning to my great surprise there was 10 pecks of blackberries and 1 peck of corn growing on my mare's back.
Just at that moment some follow out of the crowd shouted out "Oh, put him down the liar, put him down."
So the old man was set free and that fellow was burned in the fire instead.
