  1. The customs of long ago are now dying out except where old people still live.
    Almost all the feasts of the year have old customs attached to them. On New Year's day many people would not give anything away and shopkeepers would not give value without the money because they believe they would be giving their goods away without the money all through the year.
    St Brigid's Day on the first of February, "Oidch' Fheile Brighde," as the old people called it, has always been observed as a very special feast. There was, first of all the traditional carrying of the rushes, the rushes which were to be fashioned into the quaint Brigid's Crosses. The
