- Long ago football match was held in the district.
The teams that played were Carniska and Kilgefin. There were fifteen men on each side. The match was played in a field called 'An Solus'' in Tuam and the Carniska team won. The ball was never kicked across country from one townland to another. The players were dressed in their everyday clothes. They used a leather football. They had two goal posts at each end of the field. The people also used to play hurling.
