    potatoes are up fairly high, the farmer sprays them with dissolved blue stone and washing soda to keep the blight away. He also picks any weeds that grow among them. Then he digs them in Autumn and stores them away in pits and on the loft.
    The local names given to the different types of potatoes are - Champions, Dates, Queen, Elephants, Epicures, Kers Pinks, Arran Banners, Arran Counsels and others.
    Kers Pink grow the best in this district and on this account more of them are sown than not.
