- Local Cures Long ago there were cures for all sorts of ailments in this diostrict.
They used many cures with herbs - Padraig leafs were used to stop bleeding. the comfry herb to draw out a thorn that would be far in the skin. Bones of dead horses broken into dust was also used to draw out thorns. Marshmallows were used to rub into stiff joints and the juice of dandelions for a cold.
The people believed a lot in charms in olden times.
The cures they had for a toothache were to put whiskey or tobacco into it.
