    that on till now some of the people keep up the old customs and on "Candlemas day" 2nd February the crosses are made and put up in the roof of the houses. I have seen them myself in other houses in my village. The plait of straw is supposed to save the animals from dying, cows and calves and horse. In some houses people have both crosses and the plait of straw up.
    The crosses are made on the night of 2nd February, and then put up in the roof before twelve o'clock. The cross is made with two pieces of timber tied together in the form of a cross, and blades of straw woven in and out around the timber forming the cross.
    Palm is given out on Palm Sunday in the Churches and each person takes a bit home and places it over their heads on the bed where they sleep, never to be taken off until it is replaced by another piece on that day twelve months. The old
