  1. There are no tailors in Tivanagh. The nearest ones to us live in the town of Boyle. They work in their own homes. Some of them stock cloth. This material is got from the Irish factories and is marked with the Irish trade mark. The class of cloth used is mostly tweed, and sometimes serge is made into men's suits and women's costumes. The tailor uses a sewing machine, a scissors, a needle, a measuring tape and a smoothing iron sometimes called a tailors goose, for smoothing out seams.
    Shirts are made in our homes. They wear better and last longer than the ready made ones got in the shops. We also buy the wool and knit socks for the men and children, but the girls would rather wear the stockings made in the factories.
    There is only one spinning wheel in this district. It belongs to an old woman. Some years ago she used to spin the wool for knitting socks. These were very thick and the men
