There were three stepbrothers living together in the Spa.

and told his brothers that they had tried to do him a bad turn but that they had done him a good turn instead, with the price for his mother and gunpowder. They went then and killed their own mothers, when they heard what he had down with his mother, and they carried them to the town on their backs, shouting out: "Who will buy old hags for gunpowder." They were hunted out of the town, and they threw their mothers on the street, and ran home to kill the stepbrother. They put him into a bag, and were walking towards the lake when they roused a hare. They ran after a hare, leaving the stepbrother on the road. He began to sing in the bag. A cattle-drover came along and asked him what was wrong with him. He told them that he was going to heaven. The drover asked him what he would take and let him go in his place to Heaven.
