Next came Larkin, the second martyr, not one bit startled or the least confused.
He says: "My Lord, I'm as free as Jesus of this awful crime of which I'm accused.
I declare, this day, before the Almighty, that I never fired at any man,
But I assisted, when I was called on, to take the prisoners out of the van.
So, farewell dear Ireland, I now must leave you, to die a martyr, all for your sake,
Farewell, Mother, and wife and children, alas, for me your hearts shall break.
Farewell to uncles, to aunts and cousins, to Erins suns and daughters round,
I hope we will meet in that other world, where no English tyrant can pull us down.

Again his Lordship he broke the silence, saying, "Come, tell us O'Brien, what you've to say,
Before I pronounce on you that awful sentence that here awaits you this very day".
