About sixty years ago there was a mill in the parish of Raheen owned by a farmer named Allen. The ruins of the mill are still to be seen. In the foundation of the mill a bar of gold is supposed to lie, and there is an eel in the millrace guarding it. The gold was put there when the mill was being built in 1833. There is only one day in the year on which the gold can be got, that is the fair day in Castletown which used to be on the 29th of June. It is said that the eel goes to the fair on that day.
One attempt was made to get the gold by the Allens but they failed.
