- An old man named Denis Keenan now aged eighty five told me that there were distilleries in Cualdra in Kevinsheath and also in the "Ten Penny Acres" about half a mile from Briscoli school. The "Ten Penny Acres" were so called because the people had to pay ten pence as a revenue or rent to the then landlord.
Lime was burned in Kilns. Rush candes were made around this locality by all the older people. My father told me he often made them and we have still the candlestick at home used to hold Rush candles.
My father still makes baskets and scibs of sally rods as do many men of the district.
